Laura von Albanien

The film tells the story of a 9-year-old Albanian girl who seeks asylum in Germany with her parents but is unsuccessful. Rún divides her film into the depiction of two worlds. On the one hand, there is the semi-documentary portrayal of living conditions in an asylum seekers' center, where people are crammed together in camp-like conditions. Laura escapes from this hopeless reality into a fairytale dream world of her childhood drawings, opulently visualized with talking trees and a flood of color. But reality intrudes upon the child's dream and unfolds into truly monstrous visual visions with expressionistic power.
