A predominantly Catholic German city, 1956: People strive for prosperity, present themselves as enlightened, and believe they have "come to terms with" the horrific war years. Fourteen-year-old Armin (Jan Ehrenberg), a Jewish boy, has befriended Hanni (Svenja Ehrhardt), who lives in the same apartment building. The two get along very well, but Hanni's parents still harbor prejudices against "the Jews." The adults' inability to understand these prejudices gradually destroys the relationship between the two teenagers… Grimme Prize winner Hilde Lermann uses the behavior of the older generation to show that the supposedly long-gone antisemitism still lives on in their minds…
