This is a Spanish TV serie whcih mainly focuses on the terrible consequences of the Spanish Civil War, which took place between the years 1936 and 1939 (just before the Second World War). Before the Civil War, a leftist man named Antonio marries a pretty woman who belongs to a welthy and right-wing family. They have a son and live happily until the Civil War breaks out and Antonio decides to fight for the lefist army (also known as Republican army or Red Army) which is defeated at the end of the War by the troops of General Franco. As a result of that, Antonio is imprisoned and the new government declares his marriage illegal. So he is no longer allowed to see his former wife. They have to overcome many obstacles in order to be together again and be able to quit the oppressive Spain ruled by General Franco. The serie was quite interesting at the beginning but I have given up watching it because it has so many chapters that the plot seems not to have and end and one ends up getting tired of the serie. Anyway, I don't think it is too interesting for people who love boy or girl acting because the main characters are mainly adults and Antonio's child, who is the only child in the serie, hardly ever appears. To sum up, this serie can be good for non Spanish people who want to know more about the Spanish postwar period and all the poverty and political oppression Spanish people had to undergo after the Civil War.... more |
