Dani (Michael Ronda), a 9 year old boy, has a dog named Pirata; a large black Newfoundland. One day Pirata suffers a fatal accident. Danis life takes a tragic turn, but Pirata returns from the other side as a ghost. The whole family moves to Veracruz City. In Veracruz the family meets Paddy OBrien (Roger Cudney), the watchman who takes care of the old lighthouse. The boy and the old man form a great friendship, in part because not only is Paddy able to see Pirata, but he teaches Dani to see him.
