A young tomboy clashes with her grieving mom after the death of her father. She resists her mother's attempts to make her mote feminine even as she is becoming noticed by a young man in a small town farm community. As her only outlet she picks on a retarded boy but after an accident nearly kills him she realizes that it's time to grow up and make amends with her mother.
