Dawn Lyn plays a teenager who is coerced by her friends into shoplifting while hanging out with them at the mall. At first she did it to be popular with them, but later it turns into a habit. She even shoplifts from an elderly shopkeeper friend she'd known all her life (played by Harriet Nelson), who (as in real life!) had recently lost her husband. One day Dawn is caught shoplifting from another mall store and is warned by police and her parents never to go to the mall without parental supervision. She does well, until one day she again is coerced into going with her friends to the mall. One of the friends has a birthday and the friend tells her to steal items for her as a birthday present. After they hit one shop, the friend also wants a scarf at another shop. The second targeted shop is the one Harriet Nelson runs. The girls wait outside the shop while Dawn distracts the owner. Then the friend motions which scarf she wants and Dawn hides it in her bag. Harriet Nelson returns from the back room carrying going out of business signs and sets them up throughout the store. Dawn is shocked because this store has been there ever since she could remember. She knows this store has been the woman's "life," especially since losing her husband. Harriet Nelson tells her that due to shoplifters, she has lost so much money she can't profit from the store and has to close. Dawn feels regret and as she's leaving suddenly "remembers" she forgot to pay for the scarf. After buying it, she gives it to her friend. Then she tells the girls that she's going back to the previous store and turn herself in. The girls think she's crazy, but she confesses to the cashier who tells her she'll overlook it this time since the item was returned. The girls, watching from outside the shop, have new respect for Dawn since she was so bold to do this. Rejoining them, Dawn reminds them the mall is off limits to her so they must leave right now. - IMDb
