Dogwood

In a rural Tennessee town, we look in on Charlie, an elderly, overweight school bus driver that spends most of his free time before and after the daily pick-ups and drop-offs, alone at home playing solitaire at his kitchen table. At the end of one of these days, as he's cleaning up the bus, he finds more than the usual empty soft drink bottles, candy wrappers and half-eaten bologna sandwiches. In one of the seats midway to the back, there's a young boy asleep. Seems that Rowan, about 9- or 10-years-old, has fallen asleep on the way home and has missed his stop. After some questioning, Charlie figures out where the lad is supposed to be, and takes him home in his pickup truck. The bus driver walks Rowan to the door and is greeted by who he assumes is the boy's mother, but she quickly explains that Rowan has been entrusted into her care temporarily as a foster child, and will probably not be staying in these parts long, as the state agency is working to get him adopted.
