Two documentary filmmakers go back in time to the pre-Civil War American South, to film the slave trade. - IMDb

An unequevocal condemnation of slavery produced at the moment when the inequalities of United States citizens based on their colour began to be recognised. Billed as documentary on some sites it is in fact very modern in concept bridging the drama/documentary genre in a way before its time. It' s a long film following the attitudes of plantation owners to their slaves and presenting the genuine scientific views held in the early 1800s. It seems difficult to even imagine a film of this magnitue being made as its cast of thousands play their part. To those with a mind for history filmng was carried out on Haiti during the time of "Papa Doc Duvalier", a somewhat sobering thought. Not a film for the fainthearted in its more brutal moments it has its lighter moments too. It offers food for thouht.
