Sharkey, part of the sinister world of child trade, picks up Vlado, an orphan of war, dreaming of freedom and a better life. They embark upon a strange and enlightening journey through war torn Bosnia. As they struggle to get out of the country and fight to stay alive, they find a special love and compassion from which emerges their ultimate moral and spiritual redemption.

Every so often a film comes along that has a top notch actor in it, and this particular case, none more so than Bob Hoskins. But the storyline seems to leave him at odds with his part as an unsympathetic and mercenary human trafficker: in this case, finding young children to sell to anyone requiring them. He encounters a nine year old boy, and by arranging with certain people in Poland, he soon discovers that the boy is needed for body parts. This causes a quandary for Bob Hoskins, and in the end, the boy is saved by a sudden change of heart, yet leaving the viewer with what is known as a cliff-hanger. All in all, not a film I would readily recommend to anyone who seeks something more substantial, even though it is quite a poignant film about human suffering.
