Jacinto is a retired matador who is currently living in poverty with his 7-year old nephew Pepote. He receives a letter reminding him that, as agreed days earlier, he has to participate in a bullfight to be held at Las Ventas bullring, and he will be paid 1,500 pesetas. He thinks the letter is a hoax, because he has been retired as a bullfighter for many years and he has not signed any contracts. Then he sees a bullfighting poster with his name on it and he realizes that the letter is no hoax. However, he needs a bullfighter costume, and renting it will cost him 300 pesetas which he does not have. Both Jacinto and his nephew Pepote (Pablito Calvo) will try to put together that sum in the few hours left before the bullfighting is to take place.

This movie by Ladislao Vajda did not become as popular as his previous movie with Pablito Calvo "The Miracle of Marcelino". However, I would dare to say that Uncle Hyacynth is one of the best Spanish movies ever made.
