Review:

Two small children and a ship's cook survive a shipwreck and find safety on an idyllic tropical island. Soon, however, the cook dies and the young boy and girl are left on their own. Days become years and Emmeline (Shields) and Richard (Atkins) make a home for themselves surrounded by exotic creatures and nature's beauty. They learn to cope with the bewildering variety of physical and emotional changes that come with adolescence. And as they begin to mature, their childhood affections lead to a sensitive and more profound love and the birth of a child. But will they ever see civilization again?

Very interesting story line and plot, but seems a bit drawn out, and becomes rather boring and interest is lost.
RATING 2.5/5

A well made film with a good cast. Whatever happened to Glenn Kohan who played young Richard? The sequel pales in comparison.

A truly classic film and a must-see. The filming and imagery are superb and (apart from the hair-styles) doesn't look dated at all.

The additional commentaries on the DVD are well worth a look too.
