1/3 - Carrie's Story In 1994, 13-year-old Carrie returns home to a bloody crime scene. She may have been in the house earlier at the same time as her mother’s brutal killer, may even have seen him. Carrie can never free herself of the horror and wrench in her emotional life. As she grows to adulthood as Carol, she has to revisit the past to free herself of it so she can move on and marry the man she loves. 2/3 - Hain's Story In the present day, Carol persuades Hain to return to London with her and reinvestigate her mother's murder, focusing on the original suspects and the massage parlour where she worked. As the detective relives the night of the killing, his perspective as the policeman who was in charge of the case reveals a different story and new clues that Carol failed to pick up on as a teenager. 3/3 - Carol's Story In the present day, Carol's obsessive drive to solve her mother's murder finally yields results when she and retired detective Hain discover why Sally was killed and who was responsible.
